The Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) in a Press Statement has said “It protests intimidation and harassment of woman journalist.”
IWPC in Delhi has expressed shock and concern over the reported harassment and intimidation of a woman journalist by alleged functionaries of the BJP and Congress in Jagdalpur, Bastar.
Malini Subramaniam, a contributor to an online news portal Scroll.in was reportedly harassed at the instigation of some political functionaries.
In its Statement IWPC has said – “The growing intimidation of journalists is a matter of grave concern. Not only is such intimidation an attack on the freedom of the press, it also creates an atmosphere of fear that will end up affecting fair and unbiased reporting by journalists”
The IWPC has urged the Chhattisgarh government that action be taken against the perpetrators so that a strong message is conveyed that no one is above the law of the land.
